Hi Les, good to see you on YT again. Live Steam🙂👍👍👍 precision Engineering Art at its best. My copy of the printed version of your Steamboat book is still one of my prized possessions, I'm sure you'll do very well with the extended and updated E version of the book. Cheers Paul
Hi Paul, Thanks for your kind remarks. I would like to send you a complimentary copy of the addendum, but I can't find your email address.
@@LeslieProper Hi Les I still have your email address, I will send you an email, thanks cheers Paul
I have this book and it is a treasure trove of information!
when are you going to put them in the water
I have several videos on my RUclips channel (LeslieProper) of the individual boat sailing under steam power.
@@LeslieProper i'm going to look for them thank you
@@LeslieProper have you made pop pop boats
@@steven38ny I have made some real small ones, about 2" long. they didn't work very good. I lost interest.
I have the printed version and it is a great resource for model steam boats! 😅
Beautiful engines
thanks Leslie. fantastic!
You have lost some marbles 😂
Awesome!
Beau travail, félicitation.
i would love to get in contact with you about getting a steam powered boat! i think this is so interesting i would love to have some of your work!
Hi, You can contact me at lesproper@gmail,com
i would love to learn how to make this engine and boiler for a mini tug boat in the koi pond
I can supply you with one of my steam boat plans if you send your email address to me at lesproper@gmail.com
Thanks for sharing all the best to you and yours from John in Texas
She scoots right along there!
Well done
Reversing valve works great. 👍
Very good information, thanks for sharing.
It moves along, but I'm trying to find a balance between propeller size, engine speed and boat speed that will allow more of a visible wake. Not a skipping hydroplane with a rooster tail, but a nice clip that lasts for maybe 3 to 4 minutes. Wondering if any of your tiny vessels are capable of anything like that? Thinking that it will require a gas fired boiler, and maybe 12 to 15 PSI ?n🤔
Hi Hank, In my experience boat speed all comes down to how much heat can be applied to the boiler. The propeller and engine size won't change the speed too much, unless they are way out of scale. All of my steam boats run pretty slow, but at an okay scaled speed.
Love these little steam boats ! 👍
fantastic
fantastic design. it smells of Scottish canal steamships carrying barrels of whiskey :)
simple beautiful! amazing job Leslie!
Thank you for the nice comment
@@LeslieProper I'm impressed with your work, Leslie. a unique combination of perfection and simplicity. It's great.
Are you interested at all in selling these lovely engines? It's really difficult to find quality beta stirling engines for sale currently, and I would love to own one.
Sorry, I am not interested in selling any engines.
That little guy really moves! 👍 Has a little wake even, but seems to want to head for the sticks.
Great little set up! That burner and boiler set up is amazing. I assume the water surrounds the internal copper fittings and the little tube just sticks up near the top of the inside of the boiler above the water level?
Hello Hank, Thanks for the comment. I enjoyed watching your latest video on your steam boat a few days ago. Nice video.
Thanks - still learning, working on a slightly bigger boat, more room for the camera and radio equipment. This internally fired boiler and burner seems like a great way to go. Going to build one and try it out. My engine keeps stopping after just a very short run, less than a minute usually. Sometimes the piston fills with water, sometimes the Sterno runs out. Then I have to wade in ! I made 3 of the oscillating engines with 3/8" bore. Just converted one to double acting... 🤞
Good afternoon, The Clyde "puffer" was so called because the single cylinder double acting engine exhausted up the funnel ( smoke stack ) making a chuffing sound.
Those lifting mechanisms were incredibly imaginative!
Great job..
Are plans available for this engine?
HI! I just saw your fantastic little steam engines and I was speechless by their beauty....you are a genius! I would like to try to build one if you will help me by providing the construction plans. I thank you in advance Moritz
Why do you need the spacers in the end of the video? Was it too tight on the crankshaft? Regards, Xander
Great idea to build it like this. Gives it a very optically pleasing appearance
Hi Leslie do you still sell the book of plans for your engines an boilers?
I have a few copies left. If you are interested I can send you information. Email me at lesproper@gmail.com
Great little engines!
As usual, you combine beauty with mechanics. Cheers!
This is so fun to watch. So what kind of tools do you use to make these?
The tracks are made from straight 4 foot lengths of 1/16" brass rod. I use a electric soldering gun to attach cross braces and supports. The brass rod is bent around different diameter pipes and cylinders. I have a small bench metal lathe that I use to make the lift mechanisems.
This is fantastic what a great gift
Very nice engine. Good work
OK, im not the only one asking for plans.....how do I get the plans to build these please??
Sorry, I don't make plans or any drawings for these. I make them up in my head as I go along. It's not really all that difficult. I always start by making the lifter first. All of the components are temporarily mounted on a piece of scrap wood so I know what the final arrangement is before I make the finished wood base. I would be happy to offer any advice if you decide to make one.
Great, Thank you Leslie. Lets start with the lifter. Looks like a metal rod and the thick wire is wrapped around it.@@LeslieProper
@@johnpennick6066 The center is a piece of thin brass K & S Precision Metals tube. I think about 1/4" O.D. The thick wire is 1/8" K & S brass rod, softened, and bent in a spiral around a piece of 1/4" drill rod. Any straight metal rod will do. I bent it free hand. I should have taken my time and made a paper spiral on the drill rod to follow, to get a neater job.
John, send future inquires via email to lesproper@gmail.com Corresponding through RUclips does not work so good for ongoing messages.
understood...thank you; i will get started@@LeslieProper
Beautiful craftsmanship there i love the man winding the handle definitely worth the extra work
My brother Les is super creative and talented. I'm proud of him.
If they're still movable, I would swap the sitting and sleeping gnomes. That way the sleeping gnome is _asleep at the switch_ .
I guess that would be clever, but I was thinking the resting gnome was resting from his shift on the crank. But yes they would be hard to move at this point.
That's really beautiful
Another excellent working model. Mary's a lucky girl to have such talented Grand father.
I am very lucky❤
Another great job Les. I was thinking about making a marble machine for my grandson. Do you follow plans or are these your own design? Thanks for sharing.~Paul
Hi Paul, They are my own design. I start with a lifter and make them up as I go along.
A wonderful piece of art. I hope Mary will treasure it forever. Thank you for sharing this with us. Happy Christmas from the UK.
Great job Sir. I’m sure She’ll Love it. Happy Holidays to You, and Thanks for Sharing with Us 👍🏻
Cool.
Superb craftsmanship!
very nice!
Nice job with both engines, love them!
